DO SOUTH
By Susie Wall
Gabrielle Miller of Canada's hit show Corner Gas takes Weekly Scoop's Susie Wall shopping in Vancouver's South Granville District.
Corner Gas star Gabrielle Miller unleashed her fashionista instincts as she invited Susie Wall to spend an afternoon at her treasured shopping enclave--Vancouver's leafy South Granville neighborhood--taking a spin through her beloved hot spots. They even had time to shop for groceries. We couldn't help noticing that this Vancouver native is a lot more laid-back than her Torontonian alter ego, Lacey Burrows!
Weekly Scoop: Why do you love shopping in South Granville?
Gabrielle Miller: There is so such wonderful quality and variety--a really amazing selection of housewares, food and clothing. And there are so many other things: galleries, restaurants and the Stanley Theatre. My Boyfriend and I love eating at Ouisi Bistro and then going to a show.
WS: Meinhardt is a fine-foods landmark. Any guilty pleasures?
GM: I love their deli. They have the best paninis. I particularly love the goat cheese and roasted veggie one. But I also go there for flowers and produce.
WS: Favourite homewear or accessories find at Peridot?
GM: A beautiful gold leaf-shaped necklace that I wore to last year's Leo Awards [the British Columbia Film and Television Awards]. I also love the gold and crystal earrings I bought there more recently. Their home pieces are also really stylish. I can decorate it with the amazing pieces that they have.
WS: What makes Misch your most trusted chic boutique?
GM: They carry some amazing lines and their pieces are really unique and beautiful. Also, Lara [the owner] and Stephanie [a sales associate] are so helpful and friendly.
WS: What's your personal style?
GM: The best way to describe it is simple and elegant: clean lines and natural fabrics. Living in Vancouver, I can enjoy the best of both worlds because the city is generally pretty casual, style-wise, but then I also have fun dressing up when I have the opportunity.
WS: What do you love most about the West Coast fashion scene?
GM: I think we have some really talented designers here such as Jason Matlo, whose beautiful purple silk dress I wore to the Leo Awards. Christina Darling is another designer I really have my eye on. It's exciting to see the kind of talent Vancouver is producing.
WS: Any other lines?
GM: Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Chloe, but a few of my current favourites are Wilfred, Luxe, 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent and By Melene Birger.
WS: In general, what fashion items catch your eye?
GM: Unique and interesting accessories: belts, jewelry, shoes and bags.
