Gabrielle Miller
UMM Spotlight
By Phil Maranda
Best known for her role as coffee-shop owner, Lacey Burrows, in the highest-rated comedy series in Canadian television history-CTV"s Corner Gas-Gabrielle Miller is one of Canada's brightest rising stars. Her acting career began when she was just 17 years old, and her talent and accumulation of praise and awards has been growing ever since.
She's won Leo Awards in 2005 and 2006 and was nominated for a Canadian Comedy award for Pretty Funny Performance. She was also nominated for a Gemini for Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Program or Series. TV Guide's 2006 Readers Poll chose Miller as the Favorite Canadian Female Star. To date Miller has appeared in over 60 TV and film roles!
In the near future, Miller will again be working on the Canadian TV series, Robson Arms, and Corner Gas will be launching in the U.S.A on WGN Superstation this September. As far as acting is concerned, she's looking forward to to being continually challenged in her roles and playing characters that interest her. Miller would love to work with the greats, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro-"they are amazing" she said.
To keep in tip-top shape for her acting roles, Miller trains in the art of boxing with a pro, has recently taken up golfing-which she loves- and if that isn't enough to keep this Canadian beauty trim and fit, she also does pilates. When she's not kickin' it in Los Angeles or Vancouver (where she grew up), Miller hangs her apron in Saskatchewan, but she loves New York and would like to spend more time exploring the sights and sounds of Europe. And when she's not acting, exercising, traveling, or visiting with her five siblings and her parents, Miller finds time to support Vela Microboard, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining innovative community-living possibilities for people with various disabilities.
It looks like Miller's future is definitely a bright one, and as Canadians, we'll be watching her in some of our favourite TV shows and movies for many years to come.
