Funny Girl
By Rosemary Poole

On Corner Gas she plays a Torontonian who moved to Dog River, Saskatchewan, to run her late aunt's diner. On Robson Arms she's a small town gal trying to launch a fitness craze in Vancouver. In her just-wrapped feature, Love and Other Dilemmas, she plays a pregnant bride determined to beat a family curse. Off screen, Gabrielle Miller is more introverted and grounded than her screwball characters might suggest. At age eight, she joined a theatre group, partly, she says to get over her increased shyness. She grew up in East Van and now lives in a heritage apartment in Shaughnessy, though her hectic schedule takes her away from home for months at a time. Shooting Corner Gas in pancake-flat Regina makes her pine for mountains and salt air. "The first time I saw a sunset on the prairies, I said, 'There's a fire. The fields are on fire.'"
